I agree with Christina when she says the first audition episodes are the worst ones for American Idol. It annoys me how we have to sit through horrible singers and their creepy back stories while we miss the auditions of 17 people who made it to Hollywood. What I do find fascinating about the initial audition and Hollywood episodes are how certain singers who seem destined for the final 12 do so badly in the next round that they’re barely given screen time during Hollywood Week. One thing’s official based on last night: I do not miss Paula at all.
My favorite singers from last night:
Girls:
Ashley Rodriguez- I hate to sound like Kara, but it really seems Ashley has the total package. She has a great voice, she’s attractive, and seems to have a confidence that some other golden ticket recipients do not have.
Katie Stevens- Are we going to have to endure Randy Jackson yelling “And she’s only 16!! 16!!!!!!!!” for a whole season? Based on last night, we just might.
Maddy Curtis- She gets extra credit for giving Leonard Cohen the rightful credit for “Hallelujah”. Like I said earlier, there are certain contestants who seem like standouts during the audition process and then are sent home picking during Hollywood week. I have a gut feeling that Maddy Curtis might be one of these people if she can’t gain a little more confidence.
Claire Fuller- They showed only a portion of her performance, but she sounded pretty good, and she’s very pretty. Therefore, she gets a spot on this list. It’s that simple for now.
Leah Laurenti- If she makes it to the final 12, I wonder how much her non-secular background will hurt her. Very nice, jazzy voice though. How many times is Randy going to say “I wasn’t expecting that at all”? I’m convinced the judges are given a sheet that tells them a little bit about what to expect out of their voices.
Boys:
Tyler Grady- Not only was he the best male singer of the night, but he had a perfect personality for being a rocker. The story about him breaking his arms because as a result of him climbing trees shows that he’s quirky enough to have some edge, but not Lambert-level eccentric to scare some people off(not that it really hurt Lambert last year).
And that’s it as far as guys I thought were very impressive. I’ll just list some others I thought were decent:
Amadeo Diricco- He had a lot of charisma. I thought his performance had just a little too much yelling though.
Luke Shaffer- According to my wife, he’s really good looking.
Benjamin-Bright- Good voice but too old fashioned.

I was too busy cooking a hamburger to feed to Victoria Beckham.
ReplyDeleteShe looked awful! And she added nothing. Still much better than Paula!
