Have you ever wondered what teachers discuss in the breakroom when they’re not reading through stacks of student essays and tests? Besides the usual topics of grades or lessons, Mitch and Christina often digress into conversations about movies, music and tv. We’re two English teachers who harbor secret hopes of one day becoming famous entertainment world critics. We know we’re a little obsessed, but we’ve accepted it, even embraced it. We’ve created this blog to invite you to join our conversation.

American Idol Results- Semifinals Week 1

What a shocking elimination episode! none of the four singers I predicted went home so that means I have to sit through another Jermaine Sellers performance. We also lost our best looking contestent, Janell Wheeler. As she stated afterwards, maybe Janell should have used her guitar on Tuesday night. She may have given a very mediocre performance, but I thought she built up enough goodwill to withstand a bad first live week,.

The same can be said for Tyler Grady. Sure, on the authentic rocker scale he was starting to edge closer to Constantine Maroulis, but this was the first week the judges gave this criticm. In a very respectful way, Tyler blamed the judges for telling him way too late that he needs to update his 70s retro style. Even Simon agreed as he mouthed the words, "He's right" afterwards. I thought Tyler had a bigger following than he actually did.

  1. I too was extremely surprised with who went home. While I was unable to watch the girls perform - I did watch the boys and I'm really shocked at the boys who did not get kicked off. I'm skeptical about this Casey James guy - sure we'll see something on TMZ about an affair between him & Cara which will ruin his chances and get her kicked off the show. But if you noticed, he had zero character to him last night, not even sure if he could hear the music around him because he was barely clapping along with the beat. I'll pay closer attention next week...

  2. PS - Really shocked Joe Munez went home too - I have to keep in mind why people vote & make my judgments based on that. I agree with Simon that the winner will most likely be one of the girls, the boys just really do not have it this season.

  3. I didn't like either of them, so I'm pretty indifferent to their going home, but Jermaine Sellers and Tim Urban were awful. How could people vote for them? And I was surprised about Janell too--although I think was too she similar to Didi and probably lost votes that way.

  4. Were you able to watch American Idol Tuesday night, Christina? I'm guessing you're going to have a tough time with these two hour AI shows interfering with Lost. I didn't think Joe would go far, but I did like Tyler.

  5. I watched the first hour then switched over to Lost and flipped back and forth during commercials. I looked it up online, and they actually have clips of all the contestants' performances, so I watched the contestants I missed on there. It worked out pretty well! That's what I'll have to do from now on.

  6. I think I'm going to have a hard time predicting how well the performers do this season considering I thought Janell was really talented and she was the first female to be sent home...
